Bev's Story--the beginning
I started taking massage classes in 1994. After not being able to complete the mandatory 100 hours of practice massages, I decided to try something new. That's when I found Nia. It was January 1996 when I walked into my first class. Little did I know that my life was about to change forever! I spent the entire 16 weeks of class crying and healing. I began to deal with issues that I had suppressed for many years. I dealt with issues I didn’t even know I had! I finally began to feel like a worthwhile lovable person capable of REAL self-love.
I continued to take the class for a year. In 1997, the instructor, Winalee Zeeb, announced that she was now certified to train others to become Nia teachers. The thought of teaching Nia intrigued me, but the timing wasn't right. Her first group completed the training in February 1997. When they came back to class and expressed their joy and shared their stories, I knew I had to take this training! The next intensive was April 1997. I made payment arrangements with Winalee and took the next step on my journey. After graduation, I immediately began to look for a place to rent so I could teach. After hitting some dead ends and taking a few "wrong" turns, I was led to the Holt Community Ed. office. To make a long story short, I taught a successful Nia class there for ten years starting in January 1998!
Many changes took place after I started teaching Nia. I grew with each class session. I continually gained strength and courage to do things I had once only dreamed of. In July 2000, I took the Blue Belt Nia Intensive. I had the courage to hop on a plane, for the first time ever, by myself, and head to place I’ve never been before (Portland OR), to stay with people I had never met before. This too, was a life-changing event! Upon my return to Michigan, I started looking for a new job. In October 2000, I left my comfort-zone and dead-end job of 11 years!
During the summer of 2003, I found myself getting restless with this new job. I needed another change! I wanted to do something that complemented Nia. I decided to go back to school for Massage Therapy. Now that I have self-confidence and know a lot more people, I knew I could make this a successful career. The nice folks at LCC allowed me to continue where I left off in 1994. I only had to retake the classes that I wanted to retake. I graduated in December 2004.
Although the Holistic Butterfly Studio didn't get her name until May 2004, she was technically “born” in 1998. HBS represents my passions in life. I truly enjoy sharing the gift of massage and energy work. I receive joy as I help others reconnect to their mind, body and spirit. I feel joy as I help others feel joy, some for the first time in many years. My goal is to create a safe place for you to JUST BE. I encourage you to be completely in your body and feel all the cells. I will continuously strive to make the Holistic Butterfly Studio YOUR...center for mind, body and spirit expression!
